Vaping vs Smoking: What's The Difference?
Vaping is a popular new smoking alternative that's commonly used to consume tobacco and herbs. From an outsider's perspective, it appears to create the same thick smoke as sparking up a cigarette or lighting a pipe. However, vaping doesn't produce smoke, nor does it create the same toxic chemical found in smoke.
When you light a cigarette or pipe, combustion occurs within the tobacco/herb. Scientifically speaking, combustion is the combination of oxygen with a given substance using heat and light. The problem is that combustion changes the chemical makeup of the substance, altering its compounds and even creating new, toxic chemicals in the form of smoke.
According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cigarette smoke contains over 7,000 chemicals, many of which are known toxins and/or carcinogens like formaldehyde, benzene, polonium 210, vinyl chloride, chromium, arsenic, lead, cadmium, carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, butane, toluene and more.
If you were to vape tobacco instead of smoking it, however, you'll inhale just a few basic compounds (nicotine included).
One of the most common reasons why people make the switch from smoking to vaping is to promote better health. Whether it's tobacco or herbs, smoking any type of substance is bad for your health. The thick tar-rich smoke contains a slew of harmful chemicals that will wreck havoc on your respiratory systems, arteries, and heart.
Vaping, on the other hand, allows you to enjoy herbs in a more pure, unadulterated fashion that doesn't poison your body with unwanted toxins.
You might be surprised to learn that vaping can save you hundreds of dollars per year. When you smoke a substance, you are essentially burning a large portion of its active ingredients. This is true for tobacco, medicinal marijuana, or any other type of herb. Granted, some of the active chemical will remain in the smoke, but some is burned away. Using a vaporizer to consume your herbs allows you to enjoy the active ingredient(s) in a healthier, more efficient manner.
Yet another reason why you should vape is because it eliminates the possibility of burns. You can always tell is someone is a smoker by looking for burn holes inside his or her car. A stray cherry can melt the carpet interior of a vehicle, leaving unsightly damage behind. Since vaporizers don't produce enough heat for combustion, they aren't able to create burning cherries such as this; thus, eliminating the possibility of burn holes in your car interior, clothes, living room furniture, etc.
