The Golden Rules of Vaping

Rule #1) Watch The Temp!

Whether you are using a convection or conduction-style vaporizer, keep the temperature low enough so it doesn't burn your herb or oil. The underlying principle of vaporizers is that it heats the herb just enough to create a breathable mist-like vapor. When the herb is heated beyond the appropriate “vaping” range, however, it turns it smoke, negating all of the positive benefits it has to offer. A good rule of thumb is to maintain a temperature setting of 355°-385°F (180°-195°C).

Rule #2) Grind Your Bud

Rather than breaking up your bud by hand, run it through a grinder before placing it in a vaporizer. When bud is thick and densely packed together, it doesn't vape as easily. Subsequently, this can throw off your temps (e.g. densely packed bud required hotter temps). Ideally, you should grind it as fine as possible before placing it into your vaporizer. A high-quality 3 or 4-piece metal grinder should make easy work of even the most well-packed herb.

Rule #3) Take Slow, Long Hits

A third rule to follow when vaping is to take slow, long hits. Newcomers to vaping often pull as hard as they can, expecting to receive a lungful of smoke. Granted, this approach may yield a lungful of smoke, but that's not what you want to receive from a vaporizer. To prevent your herb from burning and turning into smoke, you should take softer, more mellow hits. It may take some trial and error, but you'll eventually find the sweet spot that works for your vaporizer setup.

Rule #4) Clean Your Vaporizer

Just like pipes need to be cleaned on occasion, so do vaporizers. Resin will buildup inside the vaporizer over time, affecting its quality and performance. So, what's the best way to clean a vaporizer? It really depends on the type of vaporizer you are using. However, most models come with an owner's manual which outlines the step-by-step cleaning process.

Rule #5) Let Your Vaporizer Warm Up

Again, the nuances of this rule vary depending on the particular type of vaporizer you are using. With that said, most models work best after they've warmed up. Before placing the herb inside your vaporizer, let it warm up for 30-45 seconds.
